Diabetes
Description
Changes in diet, daily activities, exercise, and the timing of meals can contribute changes in your control of diabetes.
Prevention
- Discuss your travel in Mexico with your physician before you leave
- Make sure that your diabetes is under control before you leave
- Bring your test strips and glucose testing machine with you to Mexico with an adequate quantity of test strips
- Bring your insulin and/or oral medications on your trip (use an insulated lunchbox to keep your insulin cool)
- Keep you meals on schedule
- Follow your diet
- Do not overexert yourself or put a strain on your body
Self Treatment
Follow the advice of your physician, and use a sliding scale for your insulin if so instructed.
Seek Help When...
Any of the warning signs that your are not managing your diabetes are present, such as:
- Infection (particularly skin)
- Extreme thirst
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Sweating
- Hunger
- Confusion
- Stuper
- Blurred vision
- Numbness
- Tingling
